Microsoft have announced that the Windows 10 version number for the upcoming Fall Creators Update will be 1709.

The previous major release of Windows 10, the original Creators Update, was version 1703, so the jump to 1709 might not seem like much of an increase, and compared to previous releases it isn't; but what it is is a bug-fixed and tweaked version of the original Creators Update that was, frankly, half baked when launched earlier this year.

It should be noted that although 1709 is the "version number", it isn't the build number of the "gold" image for the Fall Creators Update. Microsoft tell us that they haven't reached that stage yet, although the current Insiders Build (16288) is the first one to not show an "Evaluation build" watermark when installed.
